6-7-13 Summer Time fishing in Key Largo

It’s been a busy couple of weeks here while fishing in Key Largo. We have been going Key Largo Deep Sea fishing mostly, out in search of mahi, tuna, and wahoo. The mahi bite has been really good so far this year, it finally slowed up a little the last week, but still decent fishing. We had some nice fish the past few weeks, most days have 4 or 5 fish from 15 – 35 lbs, and then 10 – 20 schoolies. The past couple days we have had lots of schoolies, but I’m sure we’ll get on some of the big ones again soon. We’ve been catching the occasional wahoo while trolling, as well as a few little “football” blackfin tunas. Today we caught our limit of mahi in the morning and then decided to anchor down for some reef fishing, we wound up catching our limit of yellowtail snapper in 90 minutes before calling it a day. We caught 2 daytime swordfish last week on one trip, about 40 and 60 lbs, and then we fished a couple days later with no sword action, but we did have some nice mahi. There should be plenty of mahi the next few weeks and hopefully the sword bite picks up like it did last year at this time. It’s worth the 20 minute drive south of Key Largo to go fishing in Islamorada! There has also been some nice mutton snappers and black groupers while bottom fishing on the reef! Send us an email when you’re ready to get out on a charter!

6/4/13 June Key Largo Fishing Report

Well it’s been a lot of rain lately the last several days and more for tomorrow too at least.  It hasn’t stopped us from getting out and going june fishing in key largo.  The tarpon bite is not quite what it was in April however we are still catching some nice fish.  Generally my trips haven’t been quite 100% focused on tarpon and often we just try for a few hours in the morning or afternoon.  The last 3 trips we have caught them all times that we tried and went and did other things the rest of the day which has been a winning formula for me.  Today we caught lots of sharks in the key largo backcountry as well as some big ‘mud marlin.’  We also caught plenty of nice size trout, ladyfish, and snapper.  3 days ago we went and hit the gulf of mexico, key largo wreck fishing.  It was a great day with a a couple permit on light tackle, 3 cobia, 2 gigantic 300 lb bullsharks, a couple nice redfish, and limit of seatrout for dinner.  If your looking for key largo tarpon fishing in june I have evenings available and that is a more productive option most of the time than fishing in the morning.  The full days the backcountry tarpon just have not been around consistently so I would recommend an evening trip.  Give me a call or email and I can get you out there!

5/23/13 Summer Key Largo Fishing Report Backcountry

Well the summer fishing in key largo is pretty good.  Had Byron out 2 days this week.  Tuesday we caught some snapper and trout, enough for dinner, plus a ton of ladyfish.  We then caught a few blacktip sharks, and moved to another area where we caught a big ‘mud marlin.’  This is a BIG bottom dweller that is a lot of fun to catch.  Later we caught some may redfish key largo.  The bite was good for them we got 20 or so reds, plus a nice snook too.  Today we had a westerly wind which is usually bad news, fishing key largo west wind.  We made the best of it though and caught some nice big mangrove snappers on fresh ballyhoo that we chummed up and netted.  Later we found some more trout in the bay including some nice size 20 inchers.  We caught a big lemon shark too, and on the way home we stopped and caught a nice key largo tarpon fishing in may.  Great way to end the day!

5/19/13 May Key Largo Tarpon Fishing Report

The  may key largo tarpon fishing has been very good.  Lots of fish still being caught and bait has been around for the most party.  Today we caught and released 2 big local key largo tarpon on fresh live mullet.  The past few days the bait was a little tougher to come by but still had our shots at a tarpon yesterday we lost.  Caught them the last few nights as well that I fished, and had multi-fish most every day a the last couple weeks.  We saw plenty of fish today and around the bridges and after the busy weekend I think they will start biting better.  The fishing with crabs especially early in the morning, in the evening, and on the later afternoon falling tides should get real good.  This is the time of year when key largo fishing in may for tarpon is good with crabs.

Key Largo Fishing in the middle of May

The fishing in Key Largo has been great lately! The reef has been providing tons of action with yellowtail snapper and a couple of grouper. The Mahi have been twice as good this year as last year, including some real nice bulls. Around the wrecks there has been some sharks as well as some goliath grouper too if you’re looking for a really big pull. Make the 20 minute drive south of Key Largo and go on a great Fishing Trip! Send me an email and I’ll get you out on an offshore key largo fishing charter! We also have been doing some daytime swordfishing and we didn’t catch one our last trip, but we did pull the hook on a very large broadbill. However we did catch 1 the trip before that and then 2 the trip before that!

4-21-13 Offshore Fishing in Key Largo in Mid April

The Offshore fishing in Key Largo has been pretty active lately. We’ve been catching a little bit of everything, and doing quite a variety of fishing. The Shark fishing has been very exciting lately. We caught 5 tiger sharks our last 3 shark trips from 400 – 700 lbs. All catch and release. We also had a couple bull sharks mixed in too. We’ve had a couple good days on the mahi and a couple slow days. They are really just starting to show up so it’s still a little early to count on them. Our best day was 35 fish, mostly schoolies but we did gaff a few up to 8 lbs. The amberjack bite is on fire! We caught 6 amberjacks yesterday with 3 bruisers over 50 lbs. They make great smoked fish dip and decent table fare. We have better eating fish so we usually don’t eat them as much as other places, but they’re definitely edible! We been catching yellowtail, vermillion, and mangrove snapper as well when we wanted dinner! A couple weeks ago we also had some good sailfishing, catching 3 one afternoon and then 6 the following day. The sails have thinned out now, but we might see some more here soon. The permit showed up on the reef the past few weeks and we have caught a handful of them, including some real beauties weighing in the 30 lb class range. On the reef we also had a cobia yesterday and saw another one that didn’t bite. Send me an email when you’re looking to get out on a key largo fishing charter and we’ll hook you up! We are only twenty minutes south and fish the same waters!

4/19/13 Tons of tarpon in key largo

The april key largo tarpon fishing is holding strong.  Boated fish practically every day this month with multiple hookups and evening multiple landings not uncommon on a trip.  The day bite has been fantastic most days in the backcountry.  Local bridge/channel fishing around key largo fishing has been good too in the evenings.  Live mullet, fresh dead mullet, and the occasional crab have been the baits of choice.  We caught 3 out of 4 today, we caught 4 out of 6 yesterday/night , 3 out of 6 the day/night before that, and so on.  If a key largo fishing charter is in your future, shoot me an email and lets discuss!536915_369323016520074_1040218900_n

4/14/13 Key Largo Tarpon Fishing stays strong!

Went deep in the backcountry april tarpon fishing key largo today.  There has been loads of fish in certain spots if you know where to look.  We caught 6 out of 13 lunker tarpon, fresh in to eat and fatten up for the spawn.  They were biting good, on everything – mullet, ladyfish, and one bite on a crab while catching the ladies!  Key largo fishing charter fishing is excellent for the big tarpon right now, if your looking to go just give me a ring or email.  I have evenings available which are excellent for tarpon fishing.  Last night we went and caught 2 out of 8 local fish.  It could of been 3 caught if you count the one that jumped and slammed on my bow, luckily not got into my boat.  Very exciting action when your fishing for this big key largo tarpon.carlotar41413

4/9/13 Key Largo April Tarpon Fishing Report

Today we caught 2 out of 4 big key largo tarpon fishing in the backcountry of the Florida Keys.  Dead mullet on the bottom did the trick.  We saw plenty of rolling happy fish in the backcountry channels, with the end of the falling tide they were in ‘feed mode’.  These fish often bite much better than local fish later into  the morning – the water is dirtier, less boats fish for them, and they are fresh wild in from the gulf.  The april key largo tarpon fishing should continue to improve as more migrating fish show up.  I have some evenings available through April and May though most every day is booked as my customers book ‘prime’ dates months in advance.  If your interested in a fishing charter in key largo than give me a ring, I’d be more than happy to take you or refer you to a professional, courteous guide that I work with!906975_4937699280024_329983535_o
